Dalai Lama, or “Ocean of Wisdom,” is a Tibetan Buddhist leader of religious officials, regarded by many as the principal incarnation of Chenrezig, the bodhisattva of compassion and patron deity of Tibet. In that role the Dalai Lama has chosen to use peace and compassion in his treatment of his own people and his oppressors.
